====== How do I use a softbounce rule? ======
We generally recommend setting a softbounce rule. The spam filters of e-mail providers react to frequent bounces, which can ultimately lead to mailings to valid e-mail addresses no longer being let through. When using a softbounce rule, the addresses are marked with a quarantine flag (status 3) and can be excluded from sending.
Softbounce rule: All users, who during the past x days received at least y mails – and all these mails produced a softbounce – will be marked with a flag an can be excluded from the delivery manually or automatically
It makes sense to first remove the addresses that have generated a softbounce from the distribution list. These can then be contacted specifically to check whether they generate a bounce again.
If an address then no longer generates a softbounce, the bounce status is canceled and the address is removed from the quarantine. This also makes it possible to check whether the currently existing softbounce rule is a sensible choice or whether an adjustment should be made in this regard.
Addresses that are in quarantine are not automatically filtered out, but you can exclude them from delivery in various ways:
* remove them from auto-target groups using the //Clean up// action
* using a defined auto target group that collects all quarantine addresses and filter them out manually (Duplicate matching)
* by activating a rule for automatic cleaning from all auto-target groups on a daily basis
* create a positive filter for //personal data > data field "mailerror" not equal to "3"// and thus filter it out
Basically, you should try to keep the bounce rates in a range of 3 - 5%, as this is not critical for the reputation of the sending domains.
Experience has shown that bounce rates in the B2B area are significantly higher, since the fluctuation of valid email addresses is also significantly higher than in the B2C area, and the distribution list thus becomes obsolete more quickly.
