How do I add an RSS feed?

In the menu item Content → RSS Feeds, you can add RSS feeds by entering your RSS feed URL and importing your articles into the system. You can generally use these, in templates that are used in the scheduler or when sending via the API.

Add RSS feed

Click on Content → RSS Feeds in the menu. You can add a new RSS feed using the button at the bottom right.

1. URL

Enter the URL of the RSS feed. The URL should meet the following requirements:

* It must be valid and accessible.
* It must be an RSS feed.
* The value within the tag guid must be unique across all entries.
* The image is expected within the tag enclosure in the attribute “url”.

The name of the feed is automatically read from the “title” tag but can be changed manually during this creation process.

ONLY the URL within the tag “link” is replaced by our tracking link.

It is recommended to only have one tag, “enclosure”, per item. Otherwise, it is not possible to address the images in the template.

Replace existing feed content

Optionally, you can check the box Delete old feed content that activates the option to replace the existing feed content with each import of the current feed, even if the current feed is empty. If no sending should take place when the feed is empty, you can regulate this in the creative using the checkbox 'Skip sending if data source is empty' and thus reduce the risk of sending outdated content.

Activate history

You can also optionally check the box Use item usage history to activate the history of used articles. This saves which articles in the feed have already been used. This can, for example, prevent the same article from being sent to the same target group multiple times if configured appropriately.

Click on To next step to view the preview.

2. Preview

A preview of the first 3 articles found in the feed will now appear, as well as information about how many articles were found in total.

This view may differ from the articles currently in the feed.

Click on To next step to change the name generated from the <title> tag of the feed if necessary.

3. Name

The name entered here was generated from the <title> tag of the feed. If a different name is desired, it can be changed here. Please note that the code is automatically generated from the name and must be unique! The name is used to identify the feed in various places in the system. So give it a unique and meaningful name.

Below this is a code that is used in templates to integrate the data source. It is automatically created from the name.

Once you have checked all the input, click on Add.

RSS Feed List

The newly created entry now appears in the RSS Feed List under Content → RSS Feeds. If you click on the RSS feed, you can edit it if necessary using the pencil at the top right.

The feed is automatically updated every time a creative in which it is used is saved. This also applies to templates that are used in the scheduler or when sent via the API.

Under Content → Data sources you will find a list of all RSS feeds and other data sources that have been configured for import by promio.net.

If you need data sources other than RSS feeds, please contact our support team via a ticket.
